Football fans at the ongoing West African Football Union (WAFU) Nations Cup, have lauded the home-based Super Eagles for their superlative performance since the beginning of the tournament.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the team have become the toast of soccer-loving fans owing to what they called their “brilliant outing’’ at the championship.

Some of the fans, who spoke with NAN on Wednesday in Abeokuta said the Eagles should not rest on their oars until they win the tournament.

Kazeem Mosobalaje, a sports journalist, told NAN that the team had performed wonderfully well.

He, however, advised the technical crew to work more on the midfield and the forward.

Mosobalaje also charged the boys to introduce more aggressiveness into their matches, especially in the first half.

“I think they have performed well to everybody’s chagrin; there are some of them, who, if given further training, can do well in the senior team,’’ he said.

Although Wale Bankole, another football enthusiast, admitted that the Super Eagles had played well in the tournament, he, however, advised them to improve on their tactics.

“They have to wake up right from the blast of the whistle; a situation where they swing into action only in the second half will not be too good enough,’’ he said.

Another fan, Olayinka Akindele, said the Super Eagles had not disappointed her at the tournament, stressing “there has been no dull moment’’.

She canvassed support from Nigerians for the team and their technical crew to make them perform better.

For Akeem Busari, the technical crew needed to work on the noticeable lapses before the next match.

NAN reports that Super Eagles thrashed Squirrels of Benin Republic 4-0 in their first outing at the championship.

They whipped Sily Nationale of Guinea 5-0 and defeated the Taranga Lions of Senegal 2-1 in their second and third matches respectively.

The Super Eagles will be taking on either the Black Stars of Ghana or the Burkina Babes of Burkina Faso in their semi-final match on Friday at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
