The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) presidential candidate,
Ibrahim Shekarau, is to flag off his nationwide campaign from Abakaliki, Ebonyi
State, next week Monday.

The Kano State campaign coordinator, Shekarau for Nigeria
Project, Ahmed Ibrahim Yakasai, told journalists in Kano yesterday that the
choice of Abakaliki was done to honour the party national chairman, Ogbonnaya
Onu.

Mr. Yakasai explained that the party intends to be in two states
per day, to cover the entire country before the time runs out, as stipulated in
the statutory book.

“ANPP is the party to beat by April. We have been working
underground and we have been able to convince Nigerians that the time is ripe
for the needed change, and Malam Ibrahim Shekarau is the best answer to the
compounding problems the country has witnessed in the past twelve years,” said
Mr. Yakasai, who is also Kano State commissioner of land and physical planning.

He further said that already, over 30 political parties have
endorsed the candidature of Mr. Shekarau, adding that they are still talking
with others for support.

He stated that ANPP is currently discussing with the Action
Congress of Nigeria (ACN) for possible alliance, “anything can happen. You see,
people are tired of PDP and the progressives are coming together to ensure that
this country is salvaged from bad leadership.”

He revealed that Mr. Shekarau’s campaign train is working
assiduously to penetrate all the geo-political zones, adding that plans have
been concluded to capture the SouthWest, known to be the stronghold of ACN.

He explained that the delay in the campaign is intentional: “We
are not like other political parties. We are not copy-cats. We plan
systematically and I must tell you that our strategy is paying off.

“We are not like the PDP who use federal government money to campaign.
Shekarau is not dipping his hand into the state treasury to fund his campaign,
but we are getting support from public spirited individuals,” Mr. Yakasai
added.
