Shagari Tasks Leaders Over Devt

Former president Alhaji Shehu Shagari has charged leaders at all levels in Nigeria to intensify effort towards providing the people especially in the rural areas with the necessary amenities to ensure the overall development of the nation.

The former president who spoke in an interview after the commissioning of an Ultra Modern Hospital at Nasko named after him by the Niger State Government emphasised that more needed to be done to uplift the standard of living of the people.

He appreciated the honour done to him by the Niger State government in naming the hospital after him and said that the hospital would no doubt help in improving the standard of living of the people and prayed that it should be used for the good of humanity.

Shagari however advised the people not to make themselves vulnerable to monetary inducement before electing their leaders and said that they should be able to elect leaders based on their own free will which would assist in promoting democratic ideals.

Also speaking, the Governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu said that the commissioning of the hospital was a turning point in the government’s effort to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the health sector.

The governor said that the hospital would help to check infant and maternal mortality in Nasko and other surrounding villages.

He said the hospital contained facilities for eye and dental care services; the best that any secondary health care institution could be proud of in Nigeria.

He said the hospital was named after Alhaji Shehu Shagari because of his humility and service to humanity.

Earlier the permanent secretary in the ministry of health Dr. Chindo Ibrahim Bisalla said the 110- bed capacity hospital cost the government about N923million.
