FG To Take Position On Ogoni Oil Spills Report

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has assured that the federal government will study the report submitted by the Presidential Committee on Environmental Survey and Clean-up of Ogoniland and make a definitive statement of its position and action plan on the recommendations.

The minister, who noted that the case had an international dimension which would be looked at critically, stated that government’s position would emerge after due consultation with all local and international stakeholders.

Commenting on the recent formal presentation of the report to President Goodluck Jonathan by the committee headed by Rev, Fr, Hassan Matthew Kukah Alison – Madueke said: “It is my hope that the presidential committee did a thorough job and we will be glad to address this issue once and for all because we all know the implication of oil spillage on human life and the eco-system.

“It is absolutely imperative that the federal government and the operators in the oil and gas industry collaborate to ensure that this type of oil spillage is averted and that when it occurs, urgent attention is given to it”.
