Obasanjo calls for Cultural exchange between Ijaw, Owus

Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has called for the exchange of culture between the Owus in Yoruba-speaking areas and the Ijaws in the southern part of the country, saying that it is only through culture that the unity of the country could be strengthened.

Obasanjo made the call yesterday at the annual Olowu day celebration which took place at Owu, Abeokuta.

Obasanjo, a Balogun of Owu kingdom, said the importance of culture in uniting the country cannot be overemphasised, and called on the royal father ?from Bayelsa State, who came to witness the event, His Royal Highness, Lot Justin Ogiaso Okoten, to look for ?ways in which traditonal rulers in the country will exchange culture for the development of the country.

“We will want you to tell ?our brothers and sisters at home what you have seen, and we want you to help develop a special relationship between us and you, particularly culturally, because there is a lot that we can learn from each other. There is a lot that we can copy for the sustenance of our culture in the country,” Obasanjo pleaded.

Responding, the monarch, the traditional ruler from President Goodluck Jonathan’s home town said the culture of the Owuswere so rich that the Bayelsan could copy from, and added that he was really imwith ?which each participants at the ?day’s event displayed their talents.
