Politicians and senior INEC officials have commended the peaceful conduct of the electorate during Saturday’s governorship election in Sokoto State.

A number of those who spoke with newsmen urged the people to continue to exhibit this attitude as they await the result of the election.

In an interview, Sen. Ahmed Mohammed Machido (PDP-Sokoto) said the election was so far peaceful and well organised.

“I have been seeing elections in this state, but I have never seen anyone so peaceful, so orderly and organised like this one.

“This shows some level of maturity by the electorate and that’s kudos to the people of the state,” the senator stressed.

The INEC National Commissioner in charge of operations, Dr Nura Yakubu, said he was confident that the outcome of the election would not only be credible, but be accepted by all.

Yakubu, who said he had visited Yabo, Shagari and Bodinga Local Government Areas to witness the conduct of the election, noted that he was impressed with the peaceful conduct of the electorate.

Similarly, the Senator representing Sokoto East, Sen. Ibrahim Gobir, commended the people for turning out in large number to exercise their civic rights.

He advised politicians to justify the commitment to democracyalready, as shown by the voters, by serving the people “very well”.

A former governor of the state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, also advised his fellow politicians to always ensure they render selfless service to the people.

He decried the attitude of many politicians who use their offices to enrich themselves, to the detriment of the people.
