NUJ Condemns Assault On Journalist; Vows To Petition IGP, NJC

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), yesterday assured its members that the Union would petition the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Nigerian Bar Association’s (NBA) brutal assault and detention of 13 Journalists in Lagos, on the order of a Lagos Chief Magistrate, A. A. Osoniyi last Wednesday.

The NUJ, said it would not hesitate to sue Mrs Osoniyi to Court to seek legal redress, if the need arises.

The National President of the NUJ, Mallam Garba Mohammed, who stated this in Kaduna while briefing Journalists on the issues affecting their wellbeing, said Insurance cover would become mandatory for all registered members of NUJ from 2013.

“I have been briefed about the unfortunate incident by the Lagos State Council executives and we at the National level have taken over the matter.
