Deputy Speaker Criticises Attack

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, has condemned in the attacks on the Abuja and Kaduna offices of This Day and SUN Newspapers

He noted that journalists were constitutionally empowered to embark on their professional duties, and described the incidents as unholy, unwarranted and uncalled for.

The Deputy Speaker who stated that the role of journalists was critical to nation building and the growth of democracy observed that bomb battle against journalists and media houses would not do the nation any good.??

“Let me appeal to those behind this battle against the media and by extension journalism profession to kindly sheath their swords and give peace a chance”, he stated.

He commiserated with the Publisher, management and staff of This Day, and SUN newspapers over the attack and the casualties recorded as a result of the attack.

“Be assured that the legislature shares in this grief and well continue to engage with relevant stakeholders to bring this bomb-throwing menace to a halt,” Rt. Hon. Ihedioha said.
