Ogun Police Foil Bus Robbery, Kill 4

Barely a month after some robbers raided a bus and raped some students on Lagos-Benin expressway; the Ogun Poilce Command yesterday said it had foiled a bus robbery attack along Lagos/ Ibadan Expressway. It claimed to have killed

four suspects and recovered three locally made pistols.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, who made this known to newsmen in Abeokuta, said that the incident took place at about 9. 00 am at Fidiwo junction of the expressway.

“An 18-seater hummer bus with Reg. Abuja, BRA 445 GWA loaded with 18 passengers on getting to Fidiwo was attacked by three of the passengers.

“One of them brought out a locally made pistol and hijacked the vehicle, diverted it into the bush where other members of the gang were waiting.

“A good-spirited individual along the expressway who saw the bus being driven to the bush alerted the DPO, Ishara division, about the attack,“ he said.

Adejobi said that the DPO of the station, SP Haruna Bashir immediately swung into action and met the robbers robbing the passengers. They (robbers) took to their heel on sighting the police.

The PPRO revealed that four of the robbers who engaged the police in a gun duel died on their way to the hospital, while others escaped with bullet wounds.

Adejobi, an assistant superintendent of Police, disclosed that items recovered from the robbers included three locally made pistols, eight expended cartridges, and some wraps of Indian hemp.
