The National Commissioner in charge of Logistics at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Col. MK Hammanga, has disclosed that the commission is working out modalities to ensure that Nigerians living in Diaspora are afforded the opportunity to participate in 2015 general elections.
Hammanga, who spoke to LEADERSHIP in an exclusive interview in Abuja recently, posited that INEC would not want to disfranchise any Nigerian irrespective of their current country of residence.
He said, “Presently, we are discussing modalities to see how we are going to see that Nigerians in Diaspora also participate in the elections that will take place in 2015. We are working on that modality and we will also invite stakeholders to carry everybody along and if that plan is worked out very well, we will see that Nigerians in Diaspora will participate in 2015 elections.”
Speaking about challenges of logistics that have since been the bane of the commission, Hammanga opined that INEC should be given a pat on the back in as much as the logistics problems have been drastically mitigated. He noted that the agency was working towards overcoming all the logistics problems by the 2015 polls.
“Improvement on the logistic process is continuous and what we have done today we will improve on it tomorrow. I’m sure that, one day, we will get there. We will get 100% improvement. You know it is not easy to be perfect no matter how little it is to get to perfection. Our target is to be perfect and to make sure that we have enough transportation, enough coordination and enough time to do all these logistics preparation,” he added.
