Two sureties were on Wednesday sentenced to 100 hours each of community service by the Ojokoro Senior Magistrates’ Court for presenting fake documents to bail accused persons.
Akeem Adeyemi, 27, and Ahmed Sodiya, 30, both traders, were arraigned on a two count-charge of misinformation and forgery.
The Magistrate, Mrs A. F. Adeeyo, gave the order following investigation by the police which revealed that the accused committed the offences with the help of their lawyer.
?”I will only be lenient in their sentence because I know they will not have done this without the consent of their lawyer who has now left them to bear the consequence alone,” the magistrate said.
She then ordered that the accused serve a hundred hours each of community service within the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area following their guilty plea.
The prosecutor, Mr. Lugard Ahonle, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 3, at the Ojokoro Magistrates' Court.
?”Adeyemi and Shodiya came to stand as sureties for Ganiyu Akande, 28; and Ayodele Ojedele, 29; who were charged before Magistrate K.O Ogundare with alleged misconduct and assault.
“It was during the verification that the court discovered that the PHCN bill and the address they presented were fictitious and then ordered their arrest,” he said.
According to the prosecutor, the two accused confessed at the police station that they committed the offences with the help of their lawyer.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 363 and 364 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The court granted the two accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.
She then adjourned the case to Feb. 25, 2013 when the accused are expected to undertake the community service. (NAN)
