Nigeria defender Echiéjilé signs for AS Monaco

Nigerian left-back Uwa ‘Elderson’ Echiejile has signed a four and a half year contract with AS Monaco FC from Portuguese side SC Braga.

Uwa ‘Elderson’ Echiejile is now tied to AS Monaco FC until June 2018. The Nigerian international (38 caps), was a member of the Super Eagles side that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and has qualified for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

After signing for SC Braga in 2010, Elderson played for Stade Rennais where he finished his youth training before playing 29 times for the first team including 19 times in Ligue 1. A solid left-back (1.84m), he turns 26 next Monday and will where the No.21 jersey.

Elderson: “I am very happy and very proud to return to France at a club like AS Monaco FC that are one of the biggest club’s in Europe and are well-known in Africa for discovering George Weah. The have also been some excellent Nigerian players to have played for this club such as Victor Ikpeba and Lukman Haruna. I will give my absolute maximum to do the best I possibly can.”

Riccardo Pecini: “He is an excellent player that we have been following for some time and we believe he can still progress. He already knows the Ligue 1 which was also an important aspect for us. His signature is more evidence of the club’s wish to recruit players with big potentials.”
