Obioma Agatha Okoli claimed Nigeria’s second weightlifting Gold medal in the Women’s 63kg at the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex on Thursday, ending Welshwoman Michaela Breeze’s chance of a fairytale finish.

Breeze, the defending Gold medallist from the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, will retire after Delhi and almost went out on top.

But the Welsh team captain had to settle for Silver after Okoli’s 211kg total, in which she also equalled the Commonwealth Games record for the Clean and Jerk at 121kg.

Marie Josephe Fegue (CMR) claimed Cameroon’s first weightlifting medal in Delhi, winning Bronze with 198kg.

Nigeria’s women have now won three medals at Weightlifting in Delhi: Augustina Nkem Nwaokolo (NGR) claimed Gold in the Women’s 48kg and Onyeka Akize (NGR) won Silver in the Women’s 53kg.
