The health
condition of former warlord, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu is improving
at the London hospital where he is receiving treatment, Anambra State
Governor, Peter Obi, has said.

Mr Ojukwu was
recently flown abroad, amidst apprehension by his people, following a
stroke he suffered last month. He had stayed briefly at the University
of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu where he was stabilised before he
was taken to a London hospital. Since then, his supporters have been
anxiously waiting for news about his condition.

The governor made
these comments after receiving the Political and Economic Chief at the
USA Consulate-General’s office, Lagos, Phil Drown at the Government
House Awka. Although he declined to name the hospital where Mr Ojukwu
is being treated, Mr Obi, however, assured that Mr Ojukwu would return
as soon as the doctors certify that he is okay.

Speaking yesterday
in Awka, Mr Obi who just returned from seeing Mr Ojukwu in London, said
“the man is in good condition and we urge Nigerians to be optimistic on
Mr Ojukwu’s full return to good health.”

Hero’s welcome

Meanwhile, members
of the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra
(MASSOB), a pro-Ojukwu group, said they have concluded plans to give Mr
Ojukwu a rousing reception whenever he returnes.

Part of such plans,
according to Cyprian Ngene, a MASSOB leader, include the formal
commissioning of a block of flats the organisation built for civil war
veterans at Okwe, Imo State which he said will be done by Mr Ojukwu.

He said the movement has been fervently praying for Mr Ojukwu’s full
recovery and is waiting to welcome him back to his homeland.
