Tragedy struck in
the camp of the Ondo State chapter of the Labour Party yesterday when
one of the leaders of the party, Yesiru Oladele, died after becoming
unconscious while reading a newspaper at his Ijapo residence in the
Akure metropolis. Mr. Oladele who was until his death, the chairperson
of the Ondo State Local Government Service Commission, died around
8.30am. Efforts to revive the deceased man proved abortive, and he
reportedly died on the way to the hospital.

Mr. Oladele, a
lawyer, was part of the legal team of incumbent Ondo State Governor
Olusegun Mimiko during the 22-month legal tussle at the Election
Petition Tribunal, Akure and the Court of Appeal in Benin.

Meanwhile, Mr.
Mimiko, in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Kolawole
Olabisi, stated that he received with “utmost shock” the sudden death
of Mr. Oladele at his home that morning.

“This is a sad
loss, and I am short of words to describe how shocked I am because he
was such an energetic young man, dedicated and hardworking,” the
statement read. “No doubt, he made a lot of landmark achievements in
the Local Government Service Commission in so short a time he took
charge as chairman. I want to sincerely say how sorry I am over this
sudden death of this young man, and I want to console his immediate
family and the entire Oladele family of Owo over this irreparable loss.
Yesiru will be missed by all as we had high hopes that he was destined
for greater heights before this unfortunate incident occurred.”

A Muslim, Mr.
Oladele was buried in accordance with Islamic rites around 3pm in his
hometown, Owo, amidst wailing family members and close associates.
