The leadership of
the Edo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has
absolved members of the party in the failure of the administration of
embattled former governor of the state Lucky Igbinedion.

Mr Igbinedion is
currently facing a 66 count charge slammed on him by the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Federal High Court Benin, the
Edo State capital.

Chairman of the Edo
State chapter of PDP, Dan Osi Orbih disclosed this during a campaign
and declaration rally to welcome a former Action Congress of Nigeria
(ACN) house of assembly aspirant, Matthew Edaghese and over 600 members
of the ACN held at Ubiaja, headquarters of Esan South East council of
the state.

Mr Orbih maintained
that the ACN controlled government of Adams Oshiomhole and his retinue
of aides are all products of the failed administration of Mr Igbinedion
and therefore should be allowed to sink together for the woes of the
state during his era.

He stated that
“those who worked day and night with Lucky Igbinedion to ensure that we
did not succeed they are today in government and they are abusing him.
They are not abusing us, we were not part of that process. They were
travelling with him all over the globe spending our money and they have
come out to tell us the man failed. They are friends let them settle
their differences in government house.”

False alarm

In a related
development, the PDP has accused the Edo State governor, Mr Oshiomhole
of planning to deny civil servants in the state of their March salary.
“We received the information that this government is not going to pay
workers salary in the month of March 2011. They want to spend the money
for elections. Let me use this opportunity to send a very strong
warning to the man who calls himself Comrade Governor; there is nothing
to show that he is a comrade. The two years of his administration, we
have had more strikes than all previous governments in Edo State. Now
his plan is to deny workers of their salaries for the purpose of
elections. We will mobilise the workers to demonstrate in the streets
if that happens.” Mr Orbih said.

Leaders of the party have threatened to mobilise residents of the
state and the affected workers against the ACN led government should it
carry out the planned action.
