Delta adopts family of rally victim

The Delta State Government will take
responsibility for the education of the children of a middle-aged
woman, Victoria Okodaso, who was one of those killed in a stampede
during the south-south Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential
rally in Port-Harcourt last week, .

The state governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan announced
the decision when he paid the family of the late PDP supporter a
condolence visit in Ughelli. He told the eldest child of the deceased,
Ruben Okodaso, that the state government will also bear the cost of his
mother’s burial.

He told the members of the family who gathered to
receive him that his government will assist the children until they
become self reliant. “The state government will assist the children
until they can stand on their own. I know that the woman was the bread
winner of the family and we will make sure that she did not die in
vain,” he said.

He also conveyed the condolences of President
Goodluck Jonathan to the family and explained that the president is
pained about the tragedy that claimed over 15 people in Port Harcourt.
The governor said the deceased died for democracy and her death should
motivate the political class to stand and work hard for the
strengthening and sustenance of democracy in the country.

The governor disclosed that he shelved his trip to Katsina because
of the death and enjoined the family not to question God .“God is all
knowing,” he said.
