Adamawa State
governor, Murtala Nyako, has inaugurated a 37-member campaign committee
with a pledge that his government will work to maintain peace and
tranquility of the state by increasing household income of families in
the state and reducing the cost of living.

The governor, whose
special assistance scheme is widely condemned by members of the
opposition, said this policy is a form of social security system
extended to some citizens of the state.

“The scheme is to empower the youth and not to make them dependent on government,” he said.

Mr. Nyako also said he has not relented in his push to provide dividends of democracy.

“There is no
dispute that I have done my best. All those who have been to the state
in the past, and compared it to what we have done in the last three
years would agree that the state has been transformed,” he said.

Listing some of the
achievements of his administration, the governor pointed out that youth
restiveness has been curtailed and “belonged to its past.”

Felix Tangwami, the
chairman of Demsa local government, who leads the governor’s reelection
campaign team, said they had a mandate to ensure the return of the
governor and others seeking elective office under the party’s banner.

The Nyako’s
campaign organisation has membership drawn from members of the state
executive council and some chairmen of local councils in the state,
state legislators, and politicians who took part in contesting for
elective office in the party primaries.

Party for all

The state chapter
of the PDP also pledged to work assiduously to ensure the success of
all the party’s candidates in the April general elections.

The state chairman
of the party, who was represented by Hassan Baba Lau, said the party
membership was well mobilised for campaigns across the state towards
the success of the PDP candidates in all the elections.

The governor said
he was grateful for the support the PDP has enjoyed from the people of
the state and assured them that his government will do the best it can
to deliver the dividends of democracy and “ ensure equity and justice.”

“I don’t think we have opposed any body coming back to the PDP and
we do not restrain any body going out of the PDP. In Adamawa State
here, we believe that PDP is the umbrella under which all of us should
belong to because this is the party that has enjoyed diversity. So,
everybody here in Adamawa State is welcome to be in PDP,” Mr. Nyako said
