The administration
of former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, yesterday came
under criticism from leaders of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in
the state, describing the seven-and-a-half-year rule of the People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) in the state as a failure. Leaders of the ACN,
including the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, a former member of the
House of Representatives, Sola Adeyeye and the secretary to the state
government, Moshood Adeoti, among others, berated the administration of
Mr. Oyinlola for a lack of outstanding achievements.

The ACN leaders who
converged in Ila-Orangun, hometown of the party’s national chairman,
Adebisi Akande, during an electioneering campaign rally of the party,
said that the PDP had failed the people of the state by not extending
the dividends of democracy to the grassroots while in power.

Speakers at the rally who berated Mr. Oyinlola’s administration for
the lack of meaningful developmental programmes beneficial to the
electorate, said he and members of his cabinet spent the better part of
the state’s allocation at recreational centres. Particularly, Mr.
Oyinlola was criticised for the alleged failure to make judicious use
of the N18 billion loan he received at the tail end of his
administration.

The ACN leaders, therefore, urged the people of the
state to vote against the PDP in the next month’s general election, and
embrace the ACN in order to enjoy real dividends of democracy both at
the urban and rural areas. Although there won’t be governorship
elections in the state in April, the National Assembly and State House
of Assembly elections will hold in the state. The people of Ila-Orangun
who defied the rain to welcome Mr. Aregbesola and his team to the town,
promised to give total support to the ACN in the upcoming general
election and future elections.
