After having recorded the lowest votes due to not-too-impressive performances the previous week Oluwatoni Afolayan and George Ukeme have ended their journey of being the first Nigerian Idol.

At a tension soaked point of eviction, Anis Halloway, host of the wave-making reality TV show had asked the three Idols Judges to make predictions as to who would leave the house next and all three cleared Yenka Onka and Emmanuel the Great as going through to the next stage due to their outstanding performance last week. True to their prediction, Tonii and George had to kiss the show good bye.

Reiterating her conviction after the eviction, Tonii, a 25 year old music undergraduate, relieved her favorite moments on the show when she was brought back on the show through the wild card. The wild card saw three evicted contestants return to join the 10 finalists and is part of the Idols format which states that six or even more contestants may be brought back to the competition through the judges exercising their power

For George he boldly declared “ “Nigerian Idol has offered me a platform to the world which is just the beginning of better things to come from me. This has been an awesome experience for me; there’s an enormous amount of talent to learn from here though Naomi is my favorite contestant”

Speaking on the success of the show so far, Chief Commercial Officer Etisalat Nigeria , Wael Ammar said “We know that the journey so far has offered a lot of surprising upsets. The Nigerian voters have made their decision and shown us how deeply they are keeping faith with their favorite contestants. Next week promises to provide even more surprises and I know our viewers will not be disappointed.”

The first ever Nigerian Idol will walk home with a cash prize of 7.5 million Naira and a Sony BMG recording contract worth N5Million, an ipad, a blackberry phone from Etisalat with one year subscription and a number of other mouth-watering gifts.

The First runner-up will go home with N1, 500, 000 as well as other exciting prizes while the Second runner-up will receive a cash prize of N1, 000, 000. Every one of the other top ten finalists is also assured of very exciting prizes.
