Former president,
Olusegun Obasanjo has donated one of his buildings in Abeokuta, the
Ogun State Capital to the campaign team of Tunji Olurin, the
governorship candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
NEXT can exclusively reveal that the building will be the campaign
headquarters of the governorship candidate.

The party’s flag
bearer had, last Thursday, inaugurated his campaign committee headed by
the former Minister for Mines and Steel, Sarafa Ishola at the party’s
secretariat located in Onikolobo, Abeokuta.

NEXT gathered that
barely 48 hours after the inauguration of the committee, Mr Obasanjo
handed over his Agbeloba building, situated at Quarry road of the town,
for the committee to use for its administrative and other political
activities.

Other committee
members for the campaign team include: Semiu Sodipo, Dayo Adebayo, Ade
Odulaja, Banjo Ogunbiyi and Michael Fasinu- the Majority Leader of the
Ogun State House of Assembly.

The six-man
campaign team, at the weekend, swung into action by converging at the
multi-million naira building for its maiden meeting.

The governorship
candidate had, during the inauguration of the committee, charged them
to work hard. He assured his supporters that he is sure of victory at
the poll.

“I believe in the
unity of PDP in Ogun State. Nobody will be able to divide us. By May
29, Oke-Mosa straight, we shall win. My activities has carried me all
over the world, it would not be difficult for us to use that
experience,” he said. “We shall not discriminate, our party is well
prepared for election.” State of crises

Mr Olurin emerged
governorship candidate of the PDP after the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC), citing a court ruling, adopted the
primaries of a faction of the party led by Mr Obasanjo and the minister
of industry, Jubril Martins Kuye. The other faction, led by the state
Governor, Gbenga Daniel has vainly fought to have its candidates
accepted to run as the authentic candidates of the party.

Messrs Obasanjo and
Daniel have been engaged in a fight for supremacy within the party and
this has led to a breakup of the party into two factions. Meanwhile, a
group of young professionals in the state, Light To Nigeria Group, have
called on President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene in the closure of
the state House of Assembly.

The group, at a
press conference held at the secretariat in Alagbon-Meta, Obantoko area
of Abeokuta, said “Our role is to correct our leaders’ errors and draw
their attention to such. In light of this, the issue of Ogun State
House of Assembly closure and the president’s non-challant attitude is
uncalled for. Hence, there is an urgent need for him to uphold the
nation’s constitution and order its opening,” leader of the group,
Kolawole Ogundijo said. Mr Ogundijo called on Nigerian youth not to
allow themselves to be used by ambitious politicians.

“We are appealing
to our colleagues across the country to be wary of these politicians,
who will keep their children indoors during elections and want to use
us for criminal political activities, just to get themselves into
office at all cost,’ he said.
