Jiimbay presents ‘Tears In The Rain’

Dance and art
organisation, Jiimbay is set to commence its project, ‘Corridors to
Power’. According to a press release from the organisation established
last year, ‘Corridor to Power’ will be activated tomorrow, March 12
2011 at the Ibru Gardens on Victoria Island by “staging a command
performance”.

“Our project
‘Corridors to Power’ is a contemporary dance and art production that
was endorsed by UNESCO last year. It is a world class dance production
with affirmative and thought provoking themes like strength and unity
in diversity and our cultural evolution with which we intend to tour
the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, West Africa and eventually the
world. The dance production is choreographed by Offiong Edet Anthony,
former UNESCO Dance web scholar 2005 based in Lagos Nigeria,” the
release reads.

Jiimbay’s first and
activating presentation of ‘Corridors to Power’ will be a performance
of the dance monologue, ‘Tears in the Rain’. “It is the story of the
struggles and the challenges of the Nigerian dancer, or drummer who
struggles daily to survive, the only motivation being the love for what
he or she does and not much else. Every action has a ripple effect.
‘Tears In The Rain’ takes you to see the ripples that are caused by the
‘Corridors of Power’ as it is often the decisions that are made in the
corridors of power that result in the tears in the rain. It will make
us slow down and look deeply at the tears we hadn’t noticed in the
rain,” a synopsis reads.

Jiimbay’s
‘Corridors to Power’ is aimed at setting an international standard for
excellence and professionalism in dance in Nigeria, provide quality
entertainment through dance, discover and nurture raw artistic talent
as well as promoting cultural tolerance in the youth.
