The only senatorial candidate of the Congress for
Progressive Change (CPC) in Ekiti State, Dixon Agboola, yesterday
withdrew from the race and pitched his tent with the Action Congress of
Nigeria (ACN), along with his party supporters.

Mr. Agboola, a former Labour Party leader and the
CPC senatorial candidate in Ekiti Central Senatorial district, stepped
down for the ACN candidate in the district, Babafemi Ojudu.

At the rally where he officially defected to the
ACN in Ado-Ekiti, Mr Agboola, a native of Igbemo-Ekiti in
Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government told reporters that he joined the
ACN because of the progressive politics being practiced by ACN.

He promised to work assiduously for the success
of the party in the forthcoming general elections, expressing
confidence that he and his party supporters will not be disappointed in
his new party.

Mr. Agboola said his defection to the ACN became
imperative as a progressive politician, so that he could join hands
with the Fayemi-led administration to restore the core values of
honour, hard work and progressiveness, the Ekitis are noted for.

He charged all his political admirers to cast
their votes for the candidates of the ACN in all elections. Mr.
Agboola, who had earlier been with the Labour Party (LP) before joining
the CPC, said he decided to quit the CPC because his dream for Ekiti
would hardly be realised under the CPC.

He added, “I was in LP but because of the
tyrannical voice we have in LP, we cannot stay there. We are leaving
the CPC because the little voice we have there cannot be heard there,
so you move to where your voice can be heard.” Mr Agboola, who
described the ACN as a party that offers purposeful leadership,
accountability and justice, called all residents of the state to join
hands with the ACN-led government to kick out those he described as the
“oppressors” whom he said had continued to use the nation’s resources
against its citizenry.

“It is time to stop this abject lack in the midst
of plenty, so that together as responsible and responsive electorate,
we shall see Ekiti State in our lifetime, rise again,” he added.

The chief of staff to the governor, Mr. Yemi
Adaramodu, who represented Mr. Fayemi at the ceremony, congratulated
Agboola for coming to the ACN, adding that the party is for all
progressives.

He called on people who believed in the progress of Ekiti to join
the party saying it was only on the platform of the party that
dividends of democracy could be realised.
