Senator-elect for
Edo South senatorial district, Ehigie Uzamere said this Monday in Benin
City that Nigerians should expect a different assembly in the coming
parliament, adding that the previous sessions particularly the sixth
senate was dominated by one party.

“The seventh
senate will be more independent and will no longer be a one-man show,
neither will it be a one-party affair. Every one of us will not be
cowed again by one political party. Nigerians will see true democracy
in the seventh senate,” he noted.

Mr Uzamere, who
contested the seat on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria,
called on the candidates of other political parties in the district to
accept the outcome of the elections. Mr Uzamere admitted that the three
contenders for the seat were all qualified to represent the people in
the upper chamber of the National Assembly, but God has chosen him
through the people to represent them in the seventh session of the
senate.

Daisy Danjuma of
the Peoples’ Democratic Party and Isaiah Osifo of the Labour Party had
contested alongside Uzamere, the incumbent senator for Edo South.

The senator who
addressed newsmen at his home in Benin City thanked Edo people for
voting for him in the election. He also promised to work with all to
develop the senatorial district.

Describing last Saturday’s election as “peaceful and the best so
far,” he asked the other contestants “to accept the outcome and embrace
peace and tolerance like I always preach in politics.”
