XTRA: ‘Underground’ in its fifth lap

The fifth instalment of the Inner Cycle organized musical contest for upcoming artists, ‘Underground’ will hold on Saturday April 30
at Ember Creek, Ikoyi. According to Glory Edozien, the head of
operations and content manager of Inner Cycle, the quarterly event,
which debuted in May 2010, is mostly a platform for music hopefuls to
exhibit their talents.

“There are many
undiscovered talented musicians and ‘Underground’ aims to showcase
these various talents to a wide-ranging audience, music scouts and
producers,” Edozien said.

Edozien further
revealed that the musical contest will be judged by renowned names in
the mainstream music industry, including The Beat 99.9FM’s OAP, Toolz;
Wana Udobang from Inspiration FM; hip-hop act, Lynxxx; songstress,
Lami; and 360nobes writer, Oye.

Speaking on the
growth of ‘Underground’ since its 2010 inception, Edozien revealed that
“the event has grown from an audience of about 80 people in attendance
to more than 400 in less than a year. This shows how enthusiastic young
people are about music and hearing fresh artistes as signified by their
attendance and support.”

Edozien also said
that the event’s main aim is to benefit participants by helping them
showcase their various talents to the ranging audience.

“We know that many
of these upcoming artists are struggling to pay for studio time and
also find it difficult to make contact with key producers and labels.
So the winners of the Underground are given opportunities to work with
recognised and acclaimed producers within various genres. They are also
given free studio time to record their tracks and a host of other key
prizes,” Edozien confirms.

Entries into the
contest were announced over various social networking webpage including
Twitter and Facebook and interested participants are made to fill out a
form which costs N3,000.
