Police Refute Allegations Of Discriminatory Promotion

The Police High Command has refuted allegations of discriminatory promotions within the Nigeria Police Force as published by a National Daily (not LEADERSHIP).

Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Olusola Amore, in a press statement said there was no truth in the publication entitled: “Crisis Looms in Police over Discriminatory Promotion.”

According to him, “For the records, the Police Service Commission (PSC) is the only authorized body charged with the responsibility of promoting police officers who are due, eligible and qualified for promotion.

“The publication is categorically false in its entity.? It is a complete of distortion the existing facts, particularly as it relates to recruitment, appointment and promotion of police officers and men in the Police Force,” Amore stated.

He explained that the signal referred to in the publication emanated from the Training Department of the Force and at the instance of the Police Service Commission.

The police spokesperson, therefore, argued that the signal was not an indication for promotion, but a process of continuous exercise for training of graduate policemen in the Force in line with the constitutional provision with a view of promoting them to meet their newly acquired qualifications.

Amore who further disclosed that the programme in question commenced in 2005 for junior officers who are graduates, said the Inspector-General of Police, Hafiz Ringim was using the medium to appeal to members of the press to refrain from acts capable of causing bad blood within the force as well as verify stories before going press.
