Armed Bandits Kill Police Officer In Delta

A Police Corporal attached to a Police patrol-team has been allegedly killed by armed bandits between Ubulu Uku-Obior in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Reports said that the Corporal was gunned down yesterday by the escaping armed robbery following a shoot-out that ensued between them and the police.

Leadership gathered that sporadic shooting between the patrol team and the armed robbers had also led to the death of a young man in a nearly house.

Sources said that the victim had in fear, jumped over the fence of his compound and landed in a well in a neighbour’s compound and died before he could be rescued.

The Police spokesman in the state ASP Charles Muka who confirmed the incident disclosed that the armed robbers were stopped by the Police in Agbor as they tried to rob one of the first generation banks adding that it was in the process of arresting them that one of the Police officers (name withheld) was shot.

“One of our men was shot and killed while several of the armed robbers escaped with several bullet wounds” he said.

Meanwhile, a drinking spree by two middle aged friends has ended in the death of one of them after getting into a brawl around the River Niger.

LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that what was supposed to be a night relaxation for the two friends in a palm wine spot yesterday turned out to be a tragic night as one of them simply identified as Agwu died.

The two friends, Victor and Agwu, allegedly engaged one another in a fight after drinking a few glasses of palm wine while neighbours’ efforts to separate their fight proved abortive.
Unconfirmed sources said that Victor had slapped his friend Agwu, knocking him down in a spasm from which he could not be revived.

ASP Charles Muka however confirmed the incident and said that Victor had been arrested, and was helping the police in their investigation while the remains of the deceased had been deposited at an undisclosed mortuary in Asaba.
