10 Rescued, 3 Trapped In Fresh Lagos Building Collapse

Barely 11 days after the collapse of a four storey building that killed over 15 people in Lagos State, another building in the late hours of Friday collapsed in the state trapping three people, even as ten people were rescued from the rubbles.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the three storey building located in Doyin Omololu Street in Ketu area of Lagos, collapsed as the owner attempted to add another storey to the already weak structure.

The Managing Director of the Lagos State Emergency Management Services (LASEMA), Dr. Oluwafemi Oke- Osayintolu told our correspondent that the collapsed building was an illegal structure that was been built upon by the owner who failed to ascertain the structural integrity of the building.

The LASEMA boss said 10 people have been rescued by the combined team of LASEMA, police, NEMA and concerned citizens, adding that heavy duty equipment have been deployed by the agency to bring help to those still trapped underneath the collapsed building.

He said the agency was constrained by the crowd who had besieged the site to catch a glimpse of the collapsed building, as well as the conflicting reports on the actual number of people trapped.

It would be recalled that over 15 lost their live, while 33 others sustained various degrees of injury in the collapse of a 4-storey building located in 4 Mogaji Street, Idumota/Ebute-Ero areas in Lagos Island which caved-in on Tuesday midnight.t No 2, Doyin Omololu street, Ketu. LEADERSHIP WEEKEND gathered that the building which was still under construction trapped three workers.

It is not clear yet whether any life was lost but officials of the Lagos State government and emergency workers are on site to help rescue the victims.?
