No fewer than 82 of the 620 corps members deployed to Bauchi State for the current service year have been redeployed to other states.
The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr Abraham Tizhe, made the announcement yesterday at the Orientation Camp in Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
Tizhe said that during the orientation programme, more than 300 corps members applied for redeployment to other states and added that with his intervention, buoyed by other NYSC officials who joined to counsel and assure the corps members that the state would be conducive for their service year, 200 of them withdrew their applications for redeployment.
Tizhe assured the corps members that security agencies had taken necessary measures to secure their lives and property, and urged them to avoid any act that would tarnish their image.
He also advised them to shun partisan politics and respect the tradition and culture of their host communities.
In his message, Gov. Isa Yuguda assured the NYSC members that government had put in place all necessary measures to ensure their security and welfare.
Yuguda, represented by the Head of Civil Service (HOS), Mr Abdon Dalla-Gin said security agencies had been directed to deal ruthlessly with any form of security threat in the state.
‘‘Let me reiterate government’s commitment to the security of lives and property in any part of the state. Government will not condone any act of lawlessness in whatever guise.
‘‘Security agencies have been directed to deal ruthlessly with any form of security threat to the individual or group’’, he said.
The governor promised to recognise and reward any corps member who excelled during the service year, adding that corps members’ welfare was also being given top priority by government.
It would be recalled that 10 corps members lost their lives during the April post-election violence in the state, while the state government donated N2million and three seats for the Holy pilgrimage to either Israel or Saudi Arabia to each of the families of the slain corps members.
