Edo Sacks Two Task Force Officials

The Edo State government on Wednesday dismissed two officials from its service over their complicity in an alleged kidnap case.

The government, in a letter dated August 2, and signed by permanent secretary, Ministry of Environment and Public Utilities, A. H. Ikhelowa, on behalf of the commissioner, terminated the appointments of Solomon Ekhairia and Humphrey Agbontaen, both of the state Task force on Illegal Structures, street Trading and
Traffic Obstruction, stating that their disengagement had become a necessity.

The commissioner in similar letters to the dismissed workers said in part: “I wish to inform you that government has approved your dismissal from the Task Force on Illegal Structure, Street Trading and Traffic Obstruction effective from the date of this letter. This dismissal has become necessary because of your subversive activities within the Taskforce.”

It was gathered that their sacking might not be unconnected with an alleged kidnap attempt on the agency’s chairman, Maj. Lawrence Loye (rtd), in July.
Both Ekhairia and Agbontaen were recently paraded by operatives of the state anti-crime unit, “Operation Thunderstorm”, over alleged kidnap attempt on Loye.

The duo who were however absolved of the kidnap attempt, had reportedly been pointing accusing fingers at Loye for their present predicament.

Agbontaen, who spoke to LEADERSHIP, said, “this victimisation is because of our stand against the high handedness of Loye but we have not seen the end.”
