ACN Resolves Chairmanship Tussle In Borno

Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), yesterday resolved the chairmanship tussle in Borno State by declaring Alhaji Kawu Tijjani as the authentic chairman of the party in the state.

It will be recalled that at the last sitting of the Justice Biliyaminu Adamu-led National Assembly and State House of Assembly Petition Tribunal, a mild drama ensued after Tijjani and Alhaji Umaru Babagoni claimed to be the “authentic’’ chairman of the party.

The ACN is contesting the election of Hon Peter Gumtha (ANPP-Borno) as the winner of the Damboa/Gwoza/Chibok Federal Constituency seat in the April 9 polls.
At the resumed hearing of the matter yesterday, Tijjani confirmed that he was the “authentic’’ chairman of the party in Borno.

He presented a letter from the National Secretary of the party, Sen. Lawan Shuaibu, confirming that he was the party’s chairman in the state and also introduced himself as a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ACN.

However, Babagoni, who had also claimed to be the chairman of the party, sat calmly and introduced himself as the secretary of the ACN in Borno.
Satisfied with the explanation, Justice Adamu was also told that Mr Haruna Mshelia would be the “authentic’’ counsel that would represent the party in the petition.

It would be recalled also that Mr John Onyile and Mr Haruna Mshelia engaged in an argument regarding the lawful attorney of the party in the petition.
Onyile told the Justice tribunal that the issue of representation had been resolved amicably.

“My Lord, we have equally resolved the issue of representation amicably and decided that Mr Haruna Mshelia continue to represent the party in this petition.’’
Also satisfied with the explanation as to the legal representation, Adamu adjourned the matter to August 19 for further hearing.
The tribunal was moved to Abuja, due to the security situation in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. (NAN)
