Refuse Disposal: Community Leader Seeks Arrest Of Defaulters

A community leader in Masaka, a suburb of the FCT, Ambassador Williams Yaji has decried the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the road median, by residents of Karu local government and has urged the police to arrest anyone found in the act as to serve as a deterrent to others.

Yaji, who made the call while speaking with LEADERSHIP, said that if left unchecked, the situation could lead to the outbreak of an epidemic in the area.

He lamented that the trend had been going on and the law enforcement agents in the area appeared to be less bothered as they had never cautioned anyone found dumping refuse indiscriminately.

Yaji further appealed to government of Nasarawa state to beef up security surveillance around the areas affected so that residents would be discouraged from coming to dump refuse in the area. This was just as he urged the government to designate more refuse dump sites in the area.

The community leader also made an appeal to the government to improve power supply to the area to save businesses in the area who he noted were already going under as a result of poor power supply.
