Gov Aliyu Sacks First Degree Lecturers From State Poly

Niger Staten Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has ordered the management of the State Polytechnic, Zungeru to sack all unqualified lecturers of the polytechnic in line with the teaching standard set by the profession.

Aliyu, in an interactive session with the school community on the way forward in Zungeru at the weekend, posited that any lecturer of the institution who failed to meet the school’s standard both on educational qualification and research work should be sacked.

The Governor said that he was not satisfied with the quality of products of the institution and therefore said that all courses that had no direct bearing with the school must be scrapped and quality of lecturers improved.

He emphasised that IJMB, other courses like Higher diploma and the Pre-ND programmes which were not duly accredited should be scrapped

He said,“most of the lecturers are first degree holders, therefore, any lecturer that fails to acquire additional qualification after three years should be considered as incompetent to remain in the institution”

According to him the polytechnic should be able to woo investors who would be able to construct hostel to improve accommodation of students as government would not be able to provide all requirements of the institution in the midst of competing demands.
Earlier the Rector of the Polytechnic, Garba Kamaye said that 17 academic staff of the institution have been released to go for Higher Education within the country while two of the lecturers would be going to Malaysia for masters and PhDs programmes on the sponsorship of Education Trust Fund (ETF).

Similarly he said that N40 million from ETF was recently allocated to the polytechnic for further training of staff of the institution.
