IBB/Obasanjo Face-Off, An Intra Class Conflict – Sule Kano

A university Don, Dr. Sule Kano, has described the views expressed in the face-off between former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida as essentially an intra class conflict.

Sule, who teaches Political Science at the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto said that the former presidents represented particular class interests, which they were out to defend and consolidate.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto that the intra-class conflict between the two military generals was not aimed at achieving national interest.

The lecturer said that they were parochial class interest which if left unchecked could lead to wider national crisis through the instrumentality of their followers.

Sule, a former National President of ASUU, advised the leaders to be cautious and tasked them to exhibit high moral conduct and patriotism in enhancing peace for the sustenance of the nation’s hard earned democracy.

‘‘Nigeria as a nation is in dire need of a peaceful and conducive atmosphere that would ensure the political growth of the country’’, he said.

Sule also called on elected leaders to live up to their responsibility in the discharge of their primary assignment.

‘‘All we need are basic infrastructure that would enhance the living status of the governed’’, he said.

He furhter called on Nigerians to shun violence and to be weary of political and religious manipulations by detractors. (NAN)
