Man Sentenced 2 Weeks For Stealing Pepper

An Abuja Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a manual worker to two weeks imprisonment for stealing a half bag of dried pepper.

The accused, Nura Musa of Mararaba, Nasarawa State was also given an option of N400 fine by Senior Magistrate Asmau Akanbi.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Umar Mohammed, had told the court that the crime was reported at the Karu police station on August 16, 2011 by one Abdullahi Bala of Karu Market, Abuja.

He said the offences, joint act and theft contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 287, of the Penal Code.

Mohammed said the complainant reported that the convict on the same date the matter was reported conspired with one Audu, who is at large, to commit the crime.

He told the court that the convict committed the crime on a market day in a store within the market premises where goods were always stored for sales and added that he made away with half bag of dried pepper valued at N16, 500 without the complainant’s consent.
The prosecutor further said the convict confessed to committing the crime during police

police interrogation.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge, following which the prosecutor prayed for summary trial.

Musa was accordingly sentenced to two weeks imprisonment with an option of N400 fine.
