The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has urged government at all levels to adopt measures aimed at addressing the security challenges facing the nation while condemning destruction of lives and property in any form.
Similarly, the Acting Governor of Niger state, Hon Ahmed Ibeto has said that the state would hold a security summit in collaboration with religious and traditional rulers in October.
The Etsu Nupe who is also the chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers? spoke, yesterday, while leading other traditional rulers on a sallah homage to the acting Governor .
Etsu Yahaya? said that government must reverse to the native way of addressing security challenges by involving traditional rulers .
The Royal Father said that? government must also come up with enabling law that would? check insecurity and assured that the traditional rulers in the state were ready to cooperate with the government in addressing some of these challenges.
In his response, the Acting Governor directed the State Ministry of Local government and chieftaincy affairs to incorporate all traditional rulers in the? security operations of the emirates.
He said that the state was becoming complex due to the influx of people from Plateau and Borno states as a result of recent crisis in the areas and asserted that government had no option than to rely on the traditional rulers.
He said in addition to involving the traditional rulers, plans were on to hold security summit next October in the state with the collaboration of Christian
Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Jamatul Nasir Islam (JNI).
Ibeto disclosed that government was looking at the proposal submitted by the two organisations and would want the input of the Etsu Nupe who is the chairman of the state Inter-religious council.
He also disclosed that from the security report, some hoodlums want to make the state a hub of dangerous drug business and the traditional rulers must be up and doing to ensure that they don’t harbour criminals in their locality.
