No Psychiatric Test For Woman Who Tried To Burn Church – Police

The Bauchi State Police Command has refuted a statement credited to its Commissioner, Mr. Ayo Ikechukwu Aduba that a female suspect who had tried to set a Church in Bauchi ablaze would undergo a psychiatrist test to verify her mental condition.
A letter of refutal of the said statement addressed to some media organisations in Bauchi explained that the Commissioner of Police was grossly misinterpreted and quoted out of context by a National daily [Not LEADERSHIP].

“The Commissioner had clearly stated that the action of the female suspect borders on the realm of criminality and under our evidential jurisprudence, there is presumption of sanity of every offender and it behoves on the court in the course of trial to determine the sanity or otherwise of a suspect,” the letter said.

To this end, it explained that the Commissioner of Police has subsequently directed the detectives to, as quickly as possible, expedite action in their investigation and arraign the suspect for the offence so indicted.

The letter which was signed by the Commissioner of Police himself, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba enjoined members of the public and the media to discountenance the quoted statement attributed to him.
