FG Reiterates Commitment To Textile Sector

The? Minister of Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, has reiterated the present administration’s commitment to grow and develop the nation’s textile sector in view of the comparative advantage it has? in this area.

The minister stated this during the week when he received in audience in Abuja, the chairman of the CHA Group of Honkong, the parent company of the United Nigeria Textiles Plc (UNTL), Ms Madline Wong.

While briefing her on the new mandate of his ministry, Aganga pointed out that the government and the? private sector have to grow and develop the textile industry in the country based on the? availability of cotton in large quantity in the country.

?He? told his guest that? the job of the ministry was to ensure that policy of government did not make it difficult for stakeholders to have access to quality cotton at the right price, adding that the? federal ministry of agriculture was focusing on facilitating the right quality of cotton in the country.

He disclosed that he has received a number of complaints from stakeholders in the sector and that the ministry was working on addressing? those issues raised? in order to create an enabling environment for the textile sector to thrive.

“We are aware of most of your complaints and we are working on it.? Textile sector is a big employer of labour and we are speaking with the ministry of power on industrial power as well as the ministry of agriculture on the right quality cotton.”
