Lawmaker Tasks FG on Lokoja –Abuja Road, Ajaokuta Steel Mills

?

The member representing Bassa/Dekina Federal Constituency of Kogi State, Mr.Tom Ogijo Zakari, has appealed to the federal government to rehabilitate the Lokoja – Abuja Highway because of its strategic importance to the country.
In addition, Zakari has called on the government to take immediate steps to reactivate the ailing Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mills so as to provide jobs for Nigerians.
?
The lawmaker, who spoke in Abuja yesterday, described the road as a death trap and blamed the situation on the negligence of the contractors handling the project.
?He urged the government to take a decisive action on the Ajaokuta steel plant so as to save the country the problem of continued dependence on other nations for steel requirement.?
?
According to him, the federal lawmakers from Kogi State have resolved to draw the attention of the federal government to complete the road project and steel projects without further delay.
Zakari said, “The Lokoja – Abuja highway has become a human abattoir, there is no day an accident does not claim lives on this road. The worst scenario is Gwagwalada area where grid lock often makes the road impossible once it is 4:00 pm. All this is due to the negligence of the contractors handling the project.”

We, members of the National Assembly caucus of Kogi State under the leadership of senator Smart Adeyemi may soon visit the minister of works on these issues.
“We appeal to the federal government to come to the aid of the people of Kogi State and other Nigerians plying the road. It is a gateway to the North and South of the country and if its dualisation and rehabilitation work is completed without further delay, the carnage would be reduced,” Zakari said.
