At last, the federal government has commenced the much awaited verification exercise of all pensioners under the Head of Service, in line with the Unified Pension scheme, to determine their accurate number and quantum of liabilities.

Fielding questions from journals while kick starting the exercise, the Head of service of the federation, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, who however rescheduled the event for tomorrow, said the verification exercise was aimed at ensuring that the aims of the pension reforms in the country are not defeated.

He said the 21-day Biometric exercise, which will be conducted in the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT to ease access for participant, is primarily instituted to address among other things the problem of ghost pensioners.
