Nigeria @ 51: We Have Made Progress – Emir Of Dutse

The emir of Dutse In Jigawa State, Alhaji Muhammad Nuhu Sunusi, has frowned at the people who are saying that Nigeria has not achieved anything in its 51 years of independence, saying that such people are inpatient and are not conscious of the history of the nation.

The emir who stated this in an interview with LEADERSHIP at his palace in Dutse, said the country had achieved a lot in this period of time, and indeed Nigerians had many good stories to tell.
The emir stated that he was among the people selected to go to Lagos to witness the birth of country independence in 1960, and it took them four days by rail to reach Lagos from the old Kano provinces.

“Going to Lagos from Kano during the Independence Day, one had to prepare his food and other items. Today, you can go to Lagos from Dutse and come back in one day; this is a manifestation that there is progress or improvement in our transport system, which every Nigerian needs to appreciate.

“So, to me, going by my historical experience about Nigeria in its pre and post-independence day, the country have goon long way, today we have thousand of professors, PhD, university graduates and many professional who have excel in various field of educations which we do not one percent of them before independence.
The emir gave example to buttress the fact that the country had attained significant progress.

“Before Nigeria’s independence, we had only one primary school the was serving the whole of present-day Dutse and Kiyawa local government, but 51 years after now every village has his own primary school. Also, we had only one Sudan Interior missionaries clinics here, but today we have specialist hospitals, general hospitals, comprehensive health centres and many clinics virtually in every village,” he said.
