‘Pipe Leakage Responsible For Dirty Water Supply’

The Director of FCT Water Board, Mr. Jibril Ibrahim, has attributed broken and leaking pipelines to the dirty water sometimes supplied to consumers in Abuja.

Jibril, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the pipes were flushed periodically.

“We have to shut down and clear the pipes, but because some mud and dirt must have entered the pipe during the leakage, consumers get dirty water. What we are supposed to do is to clear it and flush out but you may not be able to flush it out completely, some of it will still get to the end users,” he explained.
Ibrahim said the pipes were always flushed after repairs were carried out.

On the issue of disconnection, he said the board had always given enough notice to consumers before disconnecting them.
“We don’t disconnect people because they failed to pay for one month. If you pay this month and you don’t pay the next month, we will not disconnect you. However, it will be written in your bill that you are due for disconnection and the date of the disconnection will also be written there,” he said.

The director also said Kuje and its surroundings would soon be connected, as the board was collaborating with the World Bank to execute the project.
