Making Others Smile

Determined to help the unhappy, SOLOMON NDA-ISAIAH writes that Kambili Osadolor-Ehima is at home with making orphans feel a sense of belonging.??

I could not bear the sight of the deplorable building. It was too really bad. The roof, walls, windows and the floor- everything was out of place. What really touched me is the classroom blocks. It Is a mudhouse in a very bad shape.’’ These were the words of Kambili Osadolor-Ehima, a news presenter and editor at the Africa Independent Television (AIT) and an ex-beauty queen when she visited Hope for Survival, an orphanage in Gishiri village of the FCT and saw the state of the home.
? Ehima, a humanitarian in the true sense of the word, was moved with compassion when she saw the school . ‘‘The building was in bad shape but to my surprise the authority asked me to just buy new ceilings and fix them. The whole building was almost falling down and I could not help the feeling that the children were in danger. So I told them that I would think about what I can do and get back to them.’’??
Ehima, is one of the greatest women of whom the Orphanage is rightly proud of. She did not just get new ceilings, but built a new school for them.
‘‘When I went back home, I thought about it and decided to build a new school for the home,’’ she said.? Ehima explained that love can truly be expressed when people extend their hand of friendship to the orphans. ‘‘It is not enough to profess love to the orphans by giving them food. We need to also look at their environment and help them. I could not help seeing them continue in that condition while I go back to my home and enjoy the atmosphere.’’?
Education, she argued, is the key to the survival of the orphans, adding, ‘‘If they are educated, they are empowered for life.’’ Believing in the idea that never decide to do nothing just because you can do little, Ehima revealed that she? did not contribute her quota? because is rich or because of fame, but because ‘‘ If we all do a little wherever we find ourselves, we will make this world a better place.’’
Going religious, she said ‘‘God has called all of us to serve Him through these orphans. The question I ask is: are we really showing love?’’ Admitting that she has not done what she thinks is enough, Ehima called on everyone to show a little kindness by giving from
‘‘The abundance God has given us. This is my humble contribution to the future of the children.’’ Handling the project to the orphanage, she said, ‘‘I am starting with three standard class blocks and I am calling on well meaning citizens of our great nation to join hands with me and add more classes , hostels and facilities for these children to have a life of their own in the future.’’?
The CEO of Kambili Aid Initiative (KAI) a non -governmental organistion, she said the project is her personal gift to the home. Ehima explained that though KAI is yet to take off fully, involved in raising awareness of the plight of the welfare of the underprivilege and helping them in whatever way we can. ‘‘That is where I said the classroom block is my personal gift to the orphanage,’’ she added.
Ehima, easly described as a woman of great virtue, is the initiator and organiser of the annual Nigeria Media Green Carpet awards. Married and blessed with children, she is a woman with many parts. She revealed that she has a lot of ‘‘good things undone.’’? An employee of AIT, Ehima had presented news for the media house for many years. She also presented a programme called IMPACT for three years. She was a presenter of TOWNTALK on Daarsat for AIT.?
