Senatorial Election: Tribunal Strikes Out CPC’s Case

The Election Petitions Tribunal? sitting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) yesterday struck out a petition by the senatorial candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Alhaji Tanko Abari, against the election of Senator Philip Aduda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for lack of merit.
In his judgement, the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Micheal Akoji, said the petitioner had failed to prove his case and had no credible evidence to prove the allegation against the winner of the election.
Commenting on the judgment, the lawyer to the CPC candidate, Mr. Ikechukwu Uzoegbu, said his client would appeal against the verdict.
But the lawyer to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Abdulrahman Maduke, described the judgement as victory for democracy.
Speaking in the same vein, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), AMAC, Kura Bitrus Tanko, congratulated the judiciary, saying that it was a clear confirmation of the decision of the electorate during the election.
He called on the CPC to join hands with the PDP to move the country forward and bury their grievances.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the judgment, Senator Aduda, representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, expressed appreciation to God for the victory and promised to carry everyone along in the development of the FCT.
