Samson Siasia Sacked

Samson Siasia has been fired as Nigeria coach after he failed to qualify the Super Eagles for the Nations Cup next year in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon? for the first time in 25 years. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have ordered a committee to meet next week and advice on a replacement.

The decision by the NFF executive committee headed by president Aminu Maigari was unanimous and they have asked that the technical committee should meet? on Tuesday to recommend a replacement. Also, the Super Falcons coach Eucharia Uche has been sacked after she failed to qualify the Falcons to the London Olympics next year.

The technical committee earlier this month recommended that Siasia be sacked after he failed to qualify Nigeria to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
Siasia was hired in November 2010 with the immediate mandate to qualify Nigeria to the Nations Cup next year and qualify to at least the semi-final of the Nations Cup to be staged in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

He failed to deliver as the Eagles were forced to a 2-2 draw by Guinea in Abuja, when Nigeria needed at least a win.
He was a favourite of the fans to lead the Super eagles after he guided the country to the final of the 2005 FIFA U20 World Cup as well as the final of the football event of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Under Siasia, the Eagles managed a record of five wins, three draws and a loss to Argentina in a rematch in September
His time as head of the squad was also noted for a couple of high-profile fallouts with star players Peter Odemwingie, Vincent Enyeama and John Mikel Obi, as he tried to instil discipline in his team.

It is not yet known who will replace Siasia as coach of the team as speculation surrounds former captains Stephen Keshi and Sunday Oliseh as well as rumours that the NFF will opt for a foreign coach from Europe.
