Tribunal Upholds Jonathan’s Victory, Buhari Loses

The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Tuesday threw out a petition by the Congress For Progressive Change (CPC), challenging to President Goodluck Jonathan's victory in the April 16 elections.

The tribunal in its ruling upheld the poll result and rejected calls by the Congress for Progressive Change for a recount in several parts of the country.

Jonathan was declared winner of the April 16 poll with 59 percent of the vote but his nearest rival, former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, who polled 32 percent, refused to accept the outcome.

Buhari's CPC party filed a petition to challenge the poll outcome in May.
