Akwa-Ibom Ex–commissioner’s Wife Abducted, N100m Ransom Demanded

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Mrs Yingi Edunam, wife of a former Commissioner of Education in Akwa Ibom State, from her home in Ekri Itam in Itu Council Area of the state.

?

The abduction took place in the early hours of yesterday as the woman was returning from the local market.
?

A black Mercedes Benz blocked her entry when she was about to enter her compound in her jeep and whisked her away.
?

Confirming the incident to our correspondent in a telephone conversation, the husband, Dr Effiong Edunam, said that his little daughter that accompanied the mother to the market was thrown off from the vehicle, while the kidnappers drove away with his wife’s jeep.
?

According to him, the kidnappers, who were more than three in number, had earlier blocked the wife while she was leaving for the market.
?

Dr Edunam, who is a strong supporter of Senator Helen Esuene, ruled out any political undertone in the kidnapping saying that the elections has since finished and his candidate had no case standing against her in the tribunal.
?

“I am living here in the outskirt, I am living my quite life and I am surprised that this is happening in front of my house”, he said.
?

Mrs. Edunam, a staff of the State House of Assembly the husband said, is a quite woman, wondering why such unexpected visitor should come to visit him now.
