‘Ndume’s Arrest, Not Indictment Of North’

One of Nigeria’s political parties, the Movement for Democracy and Justice (MDJ), has said the arrest of Senator Ali Ndume (PDP, Borno South) by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) over his alleged role in the sponsorship of the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, on Tuesday, is not an indictment of the northern part of the country.

This statement was made by the party chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Dankyarana, during a press briefing at the party’s head office, located at Wuse II, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Dankyarana cautioned that rather than blame the region, it would be wiser to let the law and due investigations do the uncovering.

“Nothing is ever as clear-cut as it seems. What if we all condemn him and it later turns out that he was used as a smokescreen for a bigger plan? We cannot be so sure about things like this, and though we want to solve a national problem like insecurity, it is early days yet to tell what direction the whole thing will take,” he said.
