Nigerians Urged To Stop HIV/AIDS Discrimination

Nigerians have been advised to stop discriminating against people living with HIV/AIDS among all categories of people.

The advice was given by the coordinator, AIDS Prevention in Nigeria (APIN), Dr. (Mrs.) Tinuade Oyebode, at this year’s World AIDS Day celebration held, Abuja.

Addressing the participants, Mrs.Oyebode advised them on the use of preventive measures like the use of condom which she said would help in the protection against the virus and other sexually transmitted diseases, stating that informed their decision to share the condoms to the members of the public and sensitise them on the importance of protective sex, stressing that condoms are not only for youths, but married couple for child spacing.

In his address, the secretary general of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mr. Kayode Olaifa, called on the youths and members of the union to abstain from sex or use contraceptives if they cannot abstain.

The programme with the theme, ‘Getting to Zero,’ was aimed at reducing the number of people living with the virus and to encourage them to take their antiretroviral drugs regularly.
