Captain Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged winner of the Kogi State governorship election in a landslide victory.
Wada won with 300,372 votes, Abubakar Audu of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) secured 159,913 votes, Ubolo Okpanachi of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) got 9,642 votes while Ocholi Enejo James of the Congress for Progressive Change drew 5,724 votes.
In the result released by the election umpire, registered voters amounted to 1,325,272, total votes recorded were 518,949, while total valid votes were 484,168, and rejected votes, 34,781.
While some have alleged irregularities in the process, others maintain that the outcome was expected. According to the later, aside from having Governor Idris behind him, all the three senators representing Kogi State, seven of the nine House of Representatives members, 22 of the 23 state House of Assembly members and all the 21 local government chairmen in the state (all PDP members) were behind Wada in the race.
Wada has served as chairman or member of several Nigerian Government Aviation Policy Development and Review Committees. He is a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD) and Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM). He has been Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Tech.) Potiskum, Yobe State since 2008.
